I find it hard to believe that Exolab did it on purpose. "Java data objects" is about as generic a term as I can imagine, and the idea that use of that phrase could be a violation of trademark is outrageous. They are data objects for the Java language -- what else would you call them?!
Having said that, I do think that Exolab should consider changing the name to avoid confusion.
