I recommend 2checkout.com for credit card processing. They handle single and repeated purchases (like monthly subscriptions), offer a shopping cart, Perl scripts, and customization.

You have a product and must accept credit cards to sell online, but who wants to spend a fortune on upfront costs. As noted in a recent PC Magazine article, "Even if you can get a merchant account, you may not want one for a startup because of the fixed costs. The alternative is to contract with a third party to sell your products using their merchant account."

2checkout.com is very difficult to deal with. They are late with payments, computers breaking down and no one to reach if there's problems. Stay away. I'm moving to Paysystems right now. I've heard they're good. I guess I'll find out.

    DON'T USE 2checkout.com
They have worthless customer service. We haven't been paid in two months and the customer service is doing nothing to help us. I suggest working with any other company, if you want to receive your money that is...

We started using 2checkout.com in 2001, and were satisfied with the service through 2002. Then the organization started breaking down, with new problems every week. There were big delays in payments (with no warning), a complete lack of customer service (we think they hid under their desks if they thought their clients were calling). No answer to emails, tickets, FAXES, or phone calls trying to get REAL PROBLEMS solved. Then a fatal mistake: they tried to take control of their servers 'in house'. Almost immediately, their service developed 'quirks', problems, and was down more than it was up. We finally were forced to get our own merchant account and quit trying to deal with 2checkout's 'problem of the day'. Our own merchant account is much cheaper, we get excellent customer service 24/7 (2co is 8/5), and our payment gateway (NOVA ViaKlix) NEVER is 'down': and they provide dial-up voice approval as backup.

Lesson: Better to do business with real companies than to rely on 'kids playing with computers'!

The initial email response always contains directions regarding refunds. The supplier is granted 2 days to respond to your complaint. If you don't receive a response, or still do not have your issue resolved, you are instructed to contact 2CO again after the 2 days have passed. At this point, in almost all cases, refunds are issued.

Considering the product you purchased, I am very shocked you did not receive a refund. Contact me directly if this is still unresolved. tom@2checkout.com

I bought an ebook from a 2checkout.com vendor. His sales page clearly indicated that this was nothing but a one time purchase ($17). Nothing hinted of recurring monthly charges. Again, it was a purchase of an ebook. Not a membership. Not a payment plan. Not a 'join anything'. An ebook. Nothing else was offered.

I was in the hospital with a heart attack when apparently the very next month (May, 2008; I purchased the ebook in April, 2008) they clipped my card for another $17. I was out of commission for a while and apparently didn't see any notice that they had charged me AGAIN for this ebook.

This month, (June, 2008), I saw yet another charge of $17. I went back and found the email where they had charged me in May. So to date, they had charged me 3 times for a one time purchase.

I contacted 2checkout.com and like the other person on here, they indicated that they would stop the recurring charges and request two months of a refund.

I received a nasty note from the vendor (via 2checkout.com) that said that I had 30 days to ask for a refund and that 'No refund will be issued!' (I cut and pasted it exactly as he sent it to me via 2checkout.com). That wasn't even the issue. The issue is that I'm not going to pay you for something over and over again.

I wrote 2checkout.com and again told them that there was no indication in the sales letter that this was anything more than a one time purchase.

2checkout.com (Tim Schaller, with 2checkout.com's Customer we don't Care?) wrote me back and said that he would credit me one of the months as refund. He pointed out that in small print, on 2checkout.com's checkout page for this vendor, it had a small note that said, 'This is a recurring charge.' I obviously didn't see that little trick to keep clipping my credit card month after month.

NOTHING in the sales page ever offered anything that would indicate that you would continue to pay this guy $17 per month for anything. No membership, no subscriptions, no updates (in fact I've never received an email from this guy since I bought the ebook).

With Tim Schaller's response who represents 2checkout.com, my assessment is that 2checkout.com approves of and supports such deceit and fraud.

I am a very reasonable person. This is clearly fraud. I don't need my $17 refunded. What I do need is to let anyone know that if you deal with either www.craigssecret.com or ANY VENDOR THAT USES 2checkout.com, you should beware.

I have already contacted the BBB and filed a formal complaint with them. I'm not looking for $17. I'm warning the public of what 2checkout.com does. I will also gain the assistance of numerous online vendors whom I know to blast this across the Internet. Forums, bulletin boards, email lists and websites. I do business with about 300 affiliates and JV partners who will assist me with this.

I honestly expected 2checkout.com to have some integrity and do the right thing. Sadly, they didn't. Again, I'm not after $17. As an online marketer myself, I am obligated to share this experience of deceit and 'in your face' fraud.

Lastly, my guess is that very few people will complain about someone stealing $17 from them. That's not the point. The point is that it is fraud, deceitful and clearly dishonest.

If 2checkout.com allows this guy to do this, they are saying that they approve of such practice. In fact, they have defended him and supported him. There's no telling how many others they allow to do this and refuse to refund their customers.

The following is 2checkout.com's Safe Shopping Guarantee.

            2. If you are not satisfied with the product or service provided by a 2Checkout.com partner, contact us immediately. We will intercede and work to resolve the dispute to the satisfaction of all parties. If the matter cannot be resolve we will issue credits as necessary.

Fact: The matter with me is unresolved and they refused to do the right thing. Beware of 2checkout.com and any vendor that they allow to use their services. They will NOT stand behind their own policy and WILL NOT protect you from fraud. In this case, they allowed a scheme to charge you multiple charges for the same thing. They told me that the additional charges were from updates. I NEVER received so much as a 'thank you' from the vendor much less ANY updates.

Along with a large number of online marketers that I know personally, I'm getting a flood of links and references to notify the public of these practices. I hold 2checkout.com responsible for being the entity that thousands are entrusting their credit card information to. There is no telling how many others they have allowed this to be done to. They are also the ones who have set forth their policy above and refuse to abide by it.
